Patrick,

We had the same issues when we implemented. We went back and forth with
Mapics for a long time till we got an answer on how to do this. Here's the
scenario:

If you have an item that you purchase in lbs and stock in yds in the item
master you need to load the purchasing unit of measure and the stock unit of
measure along with a unit of measure conversion factor. What Mapics does
when a PO is created is to look at the purchasing unit of measure and the
stocking unit of measure and if different will display the purchasing unit
of measure on your PO. Since Mapics considers your stocking unit of measure
to be the primary units the price of an item with a conversion can be an
issue. Here is how the formula works (its not documented in Mapics info):

If a PO uom is different than a stocking uom then Mapics does the following
for price:

Purchase price in item master C is multiplied by the uom conversion factor
to create the price per purchasing unit.

ex: .45/yd (record c) x .52 (uom conversion factor) = 0.234/lb

This formula should help you determine what your uom conversion factor
should be.

Subject: Purchasing unit of measure conversion

I have a different type of problem, and am looking for suggestions from the
peanut gallery.

Facts:
I purchase ribbon in pounds, but receive and use it in yards.
1 pound is 5,000 yards.
I need for the purchasing module to print in pounds, but I want to receive
it in yards.

How should I set this item up so that it is purchased in the correct
quantities, yet is also received in the correct quantities and UOMs? I don't
think a standard uom conversion will work, since other items way more or
less than 5,000 per lb.

I'd appreciate any hints or tips you can give me.
