I agree... That is how we did it - a different conversion factor for each item... For example, steel sheet, steel coil, steel bar, etc.. I previously did SAP MM installs and it was the same - by item... I know it seems like alot of work but again its in the item master so you only have to do it once and it defaults to your PO's. We've literally had to set-up hundreds of these conversion factors for items for every purchasing install we've done. The default unit of measure conversion factors are just that, defaults - it's what's actually stored for the item that gets copied to the PO, and in fact it's possible to change it on each PO, although there may not be a MAPICS screen which allows that (yes, I know DFU is almost a dirty three-letter-acronym <grin>). Dave Shaw MAPICS-L Moderator Spartan International, Inc. Spartanburg, SC -----Original Message----- From: Shrader, Patrick [mailto:pshrader@wkep.com] This explanation makes sense. However, product A weighs 3 pounds per 1000 yards, and product B weighs 50 pounds per 1000 yards. If I set the UOM conversion for product A where 1 lb = 333 yards, what do I do when I order product B (1 lb = 20 yards)? It is unrealistic to create a different UOM conversion for every product that I purchase. Things like thread, ribbon, and the such is sold by weight but used by the yard. Is this something that the system can calculate, or will I need to manually convert it to yards for my receiving, and add to the comments of the PO the weight for the vendor's use? David, yes I have purchasing installed (as of last week).
