Hello All,
I am finally to the point where I realize I need to start learning more
about JPA rather than using my own methods of executing and SQL statement
and iterating through the result set.
Hear hear :)

(multiple implementations of an open Sun standard, blablabla, whee, blablabla).

I picked the Hibernate implementation of JPA (cannot remember the exact name) for a project some time ago. The reason for this was that DB2/400 is a supported SQL dialect in Hibernate which all in all is important to us, and it worked well.
Note that unless instructed otherwise Hibernate wants the DB2 file to be journalled. There was a posting I saw a while back about how to get around that limitation, but I haven't tested.

When you are up and running, I think you will like it. I did.

If I recall correctly MyEclipse has a feature allowing you to build Java classes from database tables, giving you a simple way to go "backwards". The generated Java code is usable outside MyEclipse.

I have not tried calling stored procedured - looking forward to interesting info :)
