Yes, that is exactly the problem-- I am just beginning
to learn java and started with the Infocenter and the Java
Toolbox, drilled down, found "Writing your first IBM

between it and the second one.
Would it be simpler to ask what needs to be done to take
that exact same piece of code and plug it into the Java
perspective in a WDSc workspace? I can handle changing the
job name, number, etc as needed but (as most newbies) am
struggling to find the correct starting place.

I'd suggest you back up for a second and quickly run through the the
basic Java tutorial.

Infocenter examples can be confusing for even seasoned Java
programmers. Plus, looking at the '400 toolbox libraries won't be of
much help until you can code, compile and run a basic java programs.

Additionally, there is nothing wrong with writing your code in
notepad, but something like eclipse will help you find mistakes and
typos, among a whole bunch of other useful things. It does however
sharpen the learning curve slightly to have to learn new tools at the
same time as a new language.

Hope that helps,
Carl.
