Paul, As someone else already replied, I think WDSC (particularly the test environment) is very memory hungry. I can really notice the difference between trying to run it on my machine with 1 GB RAM, where the WTE starts in 30 seconds (at most) and or on my other machine with 512K RAM, where the WTE takes of the region of 90 seconds to start up. If you get down to 256K RAM it must be totally unusable. So I don't find the WTE too bad. Because it starts in 30 seconds I don't miss the lack of hot code replace either, and I can only recall one situation where I've managed to crash it (inserting certain tags in the JSP editor without adding in the closing tags at the same time). The only thing which does really bug me is the performance of the editor itself, e.g. it takes 10-15 seconds to switch between views/perspectives, or when you double click to open up a JSP sometimes that can take 10-15 seconds to open up. I've never used the MyEclipse plugin so don't have much to go by in terms of a comparison. We have had several issues with the IDE including: a) Performance b) WebSphere Test Environment (WTE) performance taking up to 10 minutes to start the server c) Hot code replace with WTE d) Crashes e) JDK currency We have not been able to remedy the situation. A colleague recommend trying Eclipse with the MYECLIPSE plug in. We have done some initial Testing and have been pleased and impressed with just base Eclipse 3.0. Before we switch over in mass, I would like to get others experience in this area. 1. Has anyone done any comparisons between WDSC (WebSphere Studio) versus Eclipse 3.0 with the MYECLIPSE plugin? 2. Have others "struggled" with WDSCi 5.1 and 5.1.2? Thanks, Paul Business: 760-432-0600 Cell: 760-415-8830 PlanetJ - Makers of WOW (AKA... WebSphere on Steroids) You Need Web?
