It is clear, that the program could not run. If you run a class like "java test", the jvm looks for a method public static void main(String[] args). But public static void main(String args) is an other (different) method. The fact, that you have a compilation error with public static void main(String[] args) seems, that the compiler does not "see", what you see on your screen. The syntax is clearly correct. It has probably to do with the encoding of caracters. In your editor, you use a certain encoding, which makes, that the byte in the file is displayed to you as [. It seems, that the javac is based on an other encoding, so that it does not recognize the [ as [ but as some chunk caracter. Not being a specialist concerning encoding on AS400, perhaps somebody else may help.
