        I downloaded the test.java file to my c:\ drive and the file is empty,
yet I can edtf on as400 in the same location.

        What CCSID should I be using. I'm using *PCASCII when executing
CPYTSTMF file from my lib to IFS.

        Is this correct?

It is clear, that the program could not run. If you run a class like "java
test", the jvm looks for a method public static void main(String[] args).
But public static void main(String args) is an other (different) method.

The fact, that you have a compilation error with public static void
main(String[] args) seems, that the compiler does not "see", what you see
on your screen. The syntax is clearly correct.
It has probably to do with the encoding of caracters. In your editor, you
use a certain encoding, which makes, that the byte in the file is displayed
to you as [. It seems, that the javac is based on an other encoding, so
that it does not recognize the [ as [ but as some chunk caracter.

Not being a specialist concerning encoding on AS400, perhaps somebody else
may help.

      Marc

Hi,

If you try to compile it like this:
 public static void main(String args) {

It should compile, but will not run, as it is not the runable main.
Only to see, if the problem comes from the [ ].

regards,

      Marc

You have main(String args[]) I think you would have more success with

public static void main(String[] args) {

Note the difference in the String args !!!

public class Crtxmldoc {
public static void main(String args[]) {
try {
