SSA chased the platform independence dream back before Java was even a reality. Ten years ago they listened to some advice about how the midrange platform was dying (sound familiar?) and they decided to go to SQL and C. That decision bankrupted a $500 million company. Intentia is currently the only player I know of in the pure Java ERP market, and they're bleeding out. Revenues are dropping and they're going deep into the red (as in a $50 million loss in 2003). They whacked 10% of their staff in the last year alone, and just reorganized their board. No, enterprise Java is hardly the place to be for ISVs. In fact, the only folks making money in enterprise Java seem to be tool vendors and consulting companies. Go figure. Joe
