FWIW, I'm been playing around with bringing java and RPG together in ILE.  The 
interfaces are sort of lame (RPG side),
but the general idea is sound.  RPG is better at DB access than java and java 
has the interfaces to the PC and Internet
world.  I'm starting to understand there is a space where java and RPG play 
nice together... Defining that space is
still a work in progress but I think there is a space where each language can 
make a contribution as equal partners.

simply use JDBC to get the data with a java program, the toolbox driver
comes with every as 400 and runs fine.
