There are all kinds of pitfalls like this including Monday is 2,
Calendar
starts months at 0 and DateFormat starts at 1. Date and Calendar
also treat year differently. That is why I wrote that the Calendar
class
is convoluted and you should wrap it in something -- at least that
way you will be able to fix all of your bugs at once.

Indeed it is.  But that doesn't work if you use variables in the
constructor's parameters, as people might well do; in that case you
still
need to know to subtract 1 from the month number to make it work.
