PC2,

I used to have a command that did what you describe but I can't seem
to locate it right now. One thing to be aware of is that the side table
of
names is not used if the CVTNAMSMTP command has been run. I
would run that command on most systems I have dealt with using the
SMTP server. You should be able to use the DSPDIRE command to
create an outfile that shows the SMTP address and domain. You
have to specify outfilfmt(*type2).

I have set up and run James on several iSeries systems and it works
fine
but it is a little limited (but much less limited than the native SMTP
server).
Qmail would be the best bet (not just because of the name), but I don't

know of an iSeries port.

Thanks, Mike. We're using the native SMTP server, and I couldn't find
any
API that did the process you describe there. But you're right, I
should be
able to write that program now.

Subject: Re: E-mail addresses

On the AS/400, there is no "email name" attribute of a user profile
that
would give you the email address of a particular user. If you are
using the
native AS/400 SMTP server, the SMTP table will contain the email
address for
the user profile. The SMTP table is the file QUSRSYS/QATMSMTPA. This
file
uses the directory entries to link to the user profile. The directory
entry
file is QUSRSYS/QAOKL02A. In order to get the email address associated
with
the user profile, you need to look up the entry in the QAOKL02A file,
then
look up then entry in the QATMSMTPA file. If you are using a different
SMTP
server (like the James server or the Communigate product) the location
of
the email addresses will probably be different. You can then easily
write
an RPG, Java, or COBOL program to get the email address for the signed
in
user. A spin-off in this concept is to create a separate file with
user
profile names and the associated email address. You could populate
this
file using whatever file set (if the native SMTP server is used or
another
SMTP server) on a nightly process and use the newly created file to
search
for an email address associated with a user name.

In short, there is no attribute of a user profile that contains an
email
address. You can write a program to retrieve this information as
needed.

A side note: during OS upgrades, the layout of these system files may
change. If you base any programs over these system files, you may need
to
recompile them after an OS upgrade.
