Larry, Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I am not able to run Linux on my system. I tried to use the standard Jikes Configuration build and it failed on the make. I do have the GNU utilities on my system but the during the configuration build it failed to find some of the Unix utilities like awk and gawk. I do believe that gawk, as well as gmake is part of the GNU utilities I have installed. I just don't want to spend hours trying to sort this out if Jikes will not run or offer an improvement over the Sun javac package.
