Well it would have been moot...
I was hoping not to post again, and I probably should not now, but...

You say
'Unlike most IBM products WebSphere requires Group PTFs'.

I think it would be better to say
'Unlike most IBM products WebSphere, DB2/400, Java/400, IBM HTTP
Server, WebSphere Commerce Suite, Net.Commerce, Network
Station, Backup Recovery Solutions, iSeries Connect, and
Performance Tools for AS/400 require Group PTFs'

I realize that is just a small number of products compared to the many
excellent products available for the AS/400; however, the Group PTF concept
was around before WebSphere Application Server for iSeries got into the
game. We make use of it because it truly is the best way we have to ensure
that our users get the correct level of PTFs for our product.

The reason I brought it up here, Royce, is because, unlike most IBM
products, WebSphere requires Group PTFs, which are outside even the normal
cume process. So even if you keep up with cumes, you may still have to get
additional group PTFs to keep running. If this process were Internet
capable, it would make it much easier to keep up to date on WebSphere, and
would probably reduce some of the frustration associated with the product.

So I disagree with you and think that the discussion AS IT PERTAINS TO
WEBSPHERE has merit here. However, I can see where this could become a
general gripe session about IBM software support, and in that case I agree
it would be outside the scope of JAVA400-L.

Thanks for your expressing your opinion, Royce. I think the PTF thread has
about run its course, anyway, so the point is probably moot. But
discussions of what should and shouldn't be in JAVA400-L are ALWAYS welcome
in JAVA400-L <grin>.
