FYI: I think I learned enough yesterday that I wouldn't have made the change even if it was desired by the group. In talking a little with the people who really know the database, I got basically this (I paraphase a little here): "Yeah, you could do that, I suppose. That might be kinda nice. Although you have to be prepared for the fact that some queries can't be updated. For example, the query optimizer is going to issue an error if you have a group by over an index on..." At this point, I ran away. My question was answered, and Joe's believe was upheld. Regards, Richard D. There's nothing more difficult to debug than an "intelligent" API (no offense!). I've been bitten more than once by a well meaning API designer who "assumed" what I meant to do and kindly went and did it for me. From a debugging standpoint, it can be very time-consuming; from an application standpoint, it can be devastating. Let me make my own mistakes, Richard <grin>. ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: Glenn Holmer <gholmer@weycogroup.com> Reply-To: JAVA400-L@midrange.com Date: Tue, 06 Feb 2001 07:52:35 -0600 >Richard Dettinger wrote: > > What do people think?
