>> I would have to disagree about starting with an IDE(specifically Visual Age) I would have to disagree with your disagreement <vbg> I'm with Jim Mason on this. In my case for slightly different reasons. When I tried Java without an IDE I was constantly having to look up which methods were supported, be aware of the exact case and spelling, likewise for the parameters. It drove me nuts. Once I discovered (in VA Java in my case) that by using Ctrl + Space I could get lists of all methods, parms etc. life became much easier and I could focus on what I was trying to do. There are many other benefits including easy access to help etc. Other than playing I didn't use the GUI capabilities much at all but the method assist, easy testing, debug, etc. made life so much easier. VA Java is resource hungry no doubt - but there are other IDEs with similar capabilities and a smaller footprint. Maybe you enjoy pain for the sake of it <bg> but me I'm a lazy SOB and hate doing more work than I have to! +--- | This is the JAVA/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to JAVA400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to JAVA400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to JAVA400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner: joe@zappie.net +---
