We have an older AS/400(I am not sure what model) at work with V3R7M0 on it
and I write Java programs that run on the PC but access data and data queues
on the AS/400. As far as writing Java programs to run on your 9402 at
V3R1M0 of OS/400, you definitely need to upgrade. But you can still do a
lot through client side Java, especially if you are just learning. I think
if you do a "wrktcpsts" on the as/400 and then choose option 3 to "Work with
TCP/IP connection status" and look for local port "as-dtaq" and/or "as-data"
to be in the listen state, you should be set for data queue and file data
access on the as/400 which should keep you busy.

Good Luck!

I think Java was only intended for the RISC Processor. If you have a RISC
processor, and maybe an updated OS/400, yea, why not Java?!!
