Thanks for the reply Brad, but I think I would need Java 1.2 to use those
classes.  Unfortunately the IDE I use(Visual Age 2.0) is only up to 1.1.6 or
1.1.7.  So unless I am totally out in left field about Visual Age, I will
not be able to use that.  Thanks again though for replying.  If any one else
has any ideas please let me know.  I know that you can play a .wav file in
an Applet using pre-Java 1.2 JVM, I just can not figure out how to do it in
an application.

You might try the Java Media Framework from Sun. It can play .wav files and
even .mp3s.
