Richard,

I remember reading a while back in the VAJ newsgroups that many of the 1.2
JDK features were also available as packages to use in 1.1.x as well.
Perhaps the classes you are looking for also are, and could then be imported
in VAJ. You might want to do a deja.com search on the subject or ask in one
of those groups- someone might have more details on that.
