Al, Learning C to learn Java was probably good advice when there weren't that many Java resources but these days I would actually avoid C altogether as there are many good books on learning Java. Java and C are similar but one of the reasons for Java's popularity is the absence of some of the things that make C or C++ programming especially frustrating. For example, pointers and multiple inheritance cause much confusion and bad code in the C, C++ languages so Java intentionally doesn't have either of these. For info about Java on the AS/400 check out IBMs redbooks: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com Hope this helps. -Todd Chaffee Arkay Computer Consultants (201) 847-9798 -----Original Message----- From: Don <dr2@cssas400.com> To: Al Hurst <hurst@us.yfu.org> Cc: java400-L@midrange.com <java400-L@midrange.com> Date: Monday, August 16, 1999 10:16 AM Subject: Re: Java starting point > > >Al, >that's a good question.
