I Simone. We are working on a project where we have corba servers written in Java on an as400. In your mail you say that you have friends who are using WebSphere on an as400. I thought that WebSphere was not yet supported by the as400. Can you tell me if i'm wrong Thanks Gilles -----Original Message----- From: SJoaquim@aol.com [mailto:SJoaquim@aol.com] Sent: mardi, 8. juin 1999 00:26 To: JAVA400-L@midrange.com Subject: Re: Some experience - as400 server side java Hi Shahar! Well, I think Java is for real, and it is for real on the AS/400 too. To answer some of your questions briefly, Java can interact with C, C++ and RPG via the JNI, for example. You can also use direct procedure calls (DPC). I'm no great C/C++ programmer, but I should imagine there's no secret in calling Java from those languages. From RPG, for now, you have to form a CL command containing JAVA CLASS(myclass) and then call QCMDEXEC. You can also use some middleware such as the AS400's own data queues, or even MQSeries, or CORBA. To interact with the database, you can use JDBC, for example. VisualAge for Java Enterprise Edition has some nice wizards such as the Data Access Beans and the Data Access Builder. I have colleagues working on the AS/400 with WebSphere, deploying servlets and Java server pages. Others are building pilot CORBA apps. I'm working on deploying the Entrust Toolkit for Java on the box, for message authentication. It feels 'for real' to me :) Best regards, Simone +--- | This is the JAVA/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to JAVA400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to JAVA400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to JAVA400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- ********************************************************************** This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed.
