Gary,

In a message dated 97-11-12 04:11:10 EST, you write:

Interesting you should ask this, as it was another subject that Wayne Madden
touched on last night. Most businesses _WON'T_ use the Internet for on-line
commerce, because the Internet doesn't provide the level of reliability and
security that businesses expect. The trend seems to be toward strategic
partnerships with outfits such as Advantis to provide secure Wide Area
Intranets between businesses. If you'll check, I think you'll find that most
of those companies purporting to be doing "e-commerce" really have exclusive
contracts with the major ISP's and can't be reached directly through "the
web".

Wayne's pitch went something like "Would you walk into your CEO's office and
opine that the business hinge its existence on the use of something that only
has 5 domain name servers to support _MILLIONS_ of customers, is overloaded
due to junk mail, and is hacked on an hourly basis?" Even the Universities
are discussing I/Net II, which the general public won't be allowed on because
_we're_ "junking up" the one they established for the free exchange of
information in the first place!
