I asked the same question, Frank. I never got what I consider a satisfactory answer, but the best I can make out is they wanted something that can compile both on the midrange and the mainframe. Once again, RPG's single-platform status bites it. After having thought about it a while, though, I'm okay with the idea - I've dealt with enough generated RPG over the years that I don't really want any more. I use EGL for the UI, and write the RPG business logic myself.
