Re: Blackberry and Domino?

Just heard form the cell rep.

He is sending a copy of BES Express. It includes 1 CAL and he says that
it can be installed on any PC that is on full time and that it will work
with the Domino Server on the IBM i. He agreed that since the users
DON'T HAVE ANY WINTEL servers that it would have to go onto one of the
user's personal (XP-Pro) PCs.

I tried a Google search but it only came up with BlackBerry Professional
Software Express which lists as it requirements that it be install _on_
a Domino Server with MS SQL Server and that it go on a "server OS". The
page also listed compatible version of Domino only going up to 7.0.2. So
either this isn't the software the cell rep is talking about, or he
doesn't know ...

I will wait to see what really shows up and if he can actually make it
work without any other servers.

To understand-
1. BES only runs on the windows platform as a Service < no plans on
others that I have heard>

The Standard process is install Domino on a Windows Server, then install
BES on Domino Server. ( not all that difficult)
You MUST have Address book replication between primary address book and
Domino Server where BES is running in order for BES/Berries to function.

As for iSeries, we accomplished this on our i550, by adding an IXS card
(you can run Windows 2003 Server) to our i5 Server.
You must allocate DASD, then install Windows OS, then install Domino,

add

to Domino Domain, then install BES on Domino Server.

After this , users can be added at the BES level on the Domino Server

where

BES is installed.
