I believe that you're right, the OS copy would be faster. However, when the users shell out money for a backup iSeries they don't expect a whole lot of downtime. Funny how you can shell out money for a backup iSeries to run email but you won't for an iSeries that runs your ERP, payroll, accounting, etc. Big part is because clustering comes in Domino, with traditional iSeries ap's you need something like Mimix. That takes some serious $, some training, and constant hand holding, just from what I've read.
