I found these explanations of CCSID 37 vs 500.   (I'm just more accustomed
to using 37.)

37:       COM EUROPE EBCDIC :     CECP: USA, Canada (ESA*), Netherlands,
Portugal, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand
500:     INTL EBCDIC:          CECP: Belgium, Canada (AS/400*),
Switzerland, International Latin-1
