The XML files are supposed to be known and manipulated by CODE/400
programs. They are being created if not existing when the daemon is
started. Since they are being created during runtime, they are unknown to
the 'install'. Hence, uninstalling the product will not remove these files.
Sometimes we ask the customers to manually delete the XML files only as the
last resort when they might have been corrupted.
Currently, these XML files are in the following directories:
On Win98/ME: C:\WINDOWS\IBMCOM\
On WinNT:C:\WINNT\IBMCOM\
On Win2k: C:\Program files\IBM\Shared Files\

In the
C:\Program Files\IBM\Shared Files
there is a file
FVDCERRS.LOG
which may have clues as to what is going on (that only Hak might be able
to interpret ;-()
There may be ways of cleaning up the files without reinstalling. I am not
an expert.
Hak, what would happen if he deleted all the files in that directory.
Would a valid set of files be created for him and he would just have to
respecify all the information in the comm console?

I'd LOVE to change everything back. When I double click on the
Communications Console, I get the same error. And, yes, I've rebooted.
So... How do I manually edit the XML files to reset them?

David, hmmmm. I just tried this and changed my server name from AECAUX to
AECAUXRS. My server IP address or name is still a valid IP address.
However, when I open a project and try to expand any filter, I get an
error
EVF1160E "Server AECAUX not active at this time". I suspect that changing
the server name should be done before you create any projects and filters
that reference the former server name. Don't ask me why.
I think what you'll need to do after you change everything back is reboot.
I'm about to try the same thing.

Okay, I did something this morning and beats the heck outta me what I
did...
I think I clicked the Communications Console, and changed the server name
from OS400A to just OS400.
Now when I try to start CodeEditor, I get a dialog box titled "Program
Error" with the text
"evfcsvrd.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.
You will need to restart the program.
An error log is being created."
My particulars:

V4R5M1 (I installed SP2, but still show as V4R5M1?)
