Here's the thing, Bob -

I choose
        Start
        Programs
        IBM WebSphere Development Tools for AS400
        Communications
        Communications Console

Then, instead of the communications console appearing, I get the Dr. Watson
dialog box I mentioned earlier.

I can't get INTO the communications console to change my server name back.

Grrr....

David, I don't know how to get to the xml files.  I did what you tried and
then went back and all's well.  I am SP4 but I don't know that SP4 is the
solution for you. When you look at your servers list in the communications
console, do you see the new name or the old name?

Remember I got a different error message (much friendlier I admit) and,
lucky for me, I was able to recover.
