If I remember correctly, the SP002 WAS buggy, and there was an unreported
little "thing" that you had to do BEFORE attempting the Service Pack
install, which involved copying an "INI" file from the service pack to the
Code directory FIRST, then run the service pack. I got bit by this myself a
couple of years back and called IBM for support, and they talked me through
the "INI" file copy, and the startup of the service pack.... And then they
billed me $240 for that, which I did NOT pay. I have been complaining for
YEARS about being charged for support that should be explicitly spelled out
in the documentation but isn't. Since the product is as "buggy" as it is,
IBM should be totally ashamed of charging for the support needed "just to
get the product working". I am not talking about usage support... the "how
do I" type of questions ... Just the support needed to work around product
bugs. Such as HELP not working properly ever since IBM instituted
NetQuestion as it's vehicle for delivering help to the user. I just got
billed $800 for attempting to have IBM help me get HELP working. Their
answer was that my PATH statement was too long, only the only reason it WAS
too long is because IBM's installation procedure put too many instances of
NetQuestion in there. And, when I attempted to switch to a newer version of
code (WDT400) on a new PC with WinME for the operating system and the HELP
still didn't work, IBM told me that they "DON'T SUPPORT WINDOWS ME". I fear
that the product may still have a long way to go, although I will probably
continue to use it in spite of it's failings as it does have some positive
points. Still, if I were you, I would probably attempt to get up to at
least V3R2M3 (which, contrary to information provided in some of the other
responses does NOT have any fix packs available) as at least it is more bug
free than V3R2M2. You could TRY to install the Websphere Development Tools
for AS/400 (the newest version of Code/VRPG) which does have service packs
available for download, but make sure your Windows O/S is supported
(i.e.-NOT WinME). Also, take a good hard look at the Newsgroup threads
before attempting this install... I fear it is perhaps more painful than the
SP002 stuff you are going through.

Good Luck,

Jim,

Is this true ... you are trying to apply a 2001 service pack to a product
from 1999? If so, that
indeed is your problem.

Or is the install software incorrectly reporting your current release of
CODE?

Jim,

I would be very surprised if you actually have SP002 for the V3R2M2
release.
Chances are you have SP002 for V3R2M3 (or maybe V4R5 - is there an SP002
for
that yet?), which of course can't be installed on V3R2M2. In any event,
V3R2M2 is ancient, and I don't think the service packs for it are on the
net
anymore. I also don't think it's supported on Win 2000.

An open email letter to IBM about their Code/400 product.

Dear IBM;

I am VERY frustrated. Installing your service pack 2 for Code 400 should
not take me all day. I have tried several times to load the service pack
that I downloaded from the Internet. I downloaded all three of the large
files, and ran them. They put a folder on the C: drive with the name of
SP002. Within this folder are three more folders QADTSWIN, QCODEWIN, and
QVRPGWIN. I then run the service pack install program and point to these
folders. I get a message that says that it does not know the level of the
service pack, but that I currently have V3R2M2 loaded.

My system: OS/400 V4R4M0
My PC: IBM Thinkpad A21p
                     256 Meg RAM
                     Windows 2000 Pro

Current Service pack on Code/400 (V3R2M2) is 000

What do I have to do to get the fixes loaded??? I don't think it should
take an act of Congress, just have the install parts work right. Is there
something missing from the service pack executable programs on the web
support page? The instructions for installing STINK!!

Besides the fact that Code/400 editor, designer and project manager are
riddled with bugs, and inconsistencies, it does not even follow most
windows GUI defaults, making it hard to work in. If you are going to
offer a windows product, please make it look and feel like windows.

As you can tell, I am a little hot under the collar. What do I have to do
to make this work correctly??
