Actually ERP LX is looking like the better solution, the more I research this. The only thing is, I can't justify the LX upgrade on EDI/ECM alone because of the small amount of EDI transactions we do ~less then 10%... Doug, are you also on 4.05CD? How about you go first on LX, teehee. Tom, That's a neat solution for avoiding ECM, but the architecture of order entry changed significantly between V4.05 and V6.x. I don't think there were ECHW, ECLW files at V4.05. ORD500 dealt directly with ECH/ECL - with the help of some nasty subfiles - if I remember correctly. DeeDee, Bite the bullet and go for ERP LX :-) It's looming in my future too and the more that blaze the trail for me the better ;) Doug McLauchlan -----Original Message----- From: bpcs-l-bounces+doug.mclauchlan=planar.com@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bpcs-l-bounces+doug.mclauchlan=planar.com@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Molyneux, Tom Sent: Monday, February 05, 2007 9:01 AM To: SSA's BPCS ERP System Subject: Re: [BPCS-L] EDI Software with off-the-selfIntegrationtoBPCS 4.05CD... DeeDee, We have another application that takes quotes from an in-house Quotation System and converts them to BPCS orders. We do this as follows : 1. The Quote System retrieves the next BPCS Order Number and loads the Quote data into the BPCS Order Entry Work Files (ECHW, ECLW and ESNW) 2. It writes the Order Number to a control file. 3. We have a program (ORDM810) that reads this control file every 60 seconds and processes any Order Number not yet flagged asprocessed. 4. The program submits another in-house program (ORDM701) with the Order Number as a parameter. This sets up the parameters and LDA required for ORD701 (standard BPCS Order Post) to run and then calls ORD701 via SYSOVRC. It all works very well and no ECM in sight ! Our programs are obviously tailored towards how we work, but I'm sure if you can get your incoming data onto ECHW, ECLW and ESNW the general idea would work for you too. If you would be interested in the source of any programs, let me know offline and I'll send you some code. Thank you Phil and Tom for replying. Both your inputs are very helpful. The staff here is also doing more with the Microsoft .NET tools and ODBC to extract data from the i5. We also use the CPYFRMIMPF a lot to import data, along with some trigger programming... With your suggestions and our experience, getting EDI transactions to and from the i5 should not be a problem for us. Where I am really stuck though, is getting the data to/from BPCS without the ECM module. Extracting shouldn't be too difficult; we already send ASNs via email with a trigger program against the BBL file... I believe my only two choices are the following: 1) upgrade our BPCS version so that we can get the ECM module. And, if we're going to upgrade, we might as well go all the way to LX 8.4 ~Phil, glad to hear (that you heard) integrations has improved in LX. 2) Start digging into customizing ORD500 or continue to screen scrap into ORD500... DeeDee... I have yet to find any package with built-in integrations to BPCS... Even the horrible product that SSA sold to Harbinger, then bought back...(It's now FINALLY dead...) didn't have anything pre-built!!! That said, any of the mainstream i5 / iSeries / AS/400 translator products will integrate fairly easily. Most can import the DDS to a file with a few menu steps, Then its simply a matter of mapping to your customer's specifications. We're also on version 6 of BPCS so we have the ECM as an inbound interface. I've written my own outbound interfaces however since I don't care for the way ECM works in that direction. I would be happy to go into more detail off-list if you are interested... If you move to LX, the integrations are better (so I'm told by my infor rep...) Hi All, Anyone out there still on BPCS 4.05 CD w/ an EDI package that imports orders and exports shipments (ASNs) somewhat automatically to & from BPCS? Ideally, I'd like to purchase EDI software that comes with an off-the-shelf interface to/from BPCS 4.05 CD... We are considering going to LX 8.4, then acquiring ECM ~just looking at other alternatives. Our EDI orders are makeup less than 10% of our sales, but the few trading partners we do interact via EDI, are key to our company... Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.
