receive to inspection

Does anyone have any experience using receipt to inspection in 6.04?  I
am told that in earlier versions there was no viability to inventory
received that way and that is why we haven't used it to date.  Another
concern is whether lot numbers are assigned and container tickets can be
printed at time of receipt for items received this way.  Any insight
would be greatly appreciated.
