The 6.x versions of BPCS will allow a lot number to have multiple items attached
to it.

Jim:

BPCS S/36 did have the capability to assign the same Lot Number to multiple
Items.

On V4.05CD, you would need to modify BPCS to support this capability. While
not trivial, it can be done. I have done this modification before for a few
clients.

Another workaround might be to use the Lot Number of the bulk Item (i.e.
tablets) as the base for the Lot Number of the finished good Items by adding
a suffix. In this way, you could at least group the associated Items
together for inquiries and reports.

NOTE: This approach does NOT work if you have BPCS automatically assign the
Lot Number since it uses all positions of the field for its sequential Lot
Number.

Thanks.

BPCS 4.05 CD requires that a Lot Number be Unique per Item Number.
Yet, in a pharmaceutical company, we often make one "batch" of tablets (
Lot
 #01)
then issue that to various different bottles sizes ( different Finished
 Goods Item # )
So Lot# 1 is issued to 3 Shop Orders and 3 different Lot#s are received
 into
    finished goods inventory ( Lot #02, 03, 04 )
We would LIKE to keep the same Lot # on all of the finished goods item
 numbers.
since they all came from the same original Lot of tablets.
 I vaguely recall ( ??? ) in an older S/38 version ( or maybe S/36 version ??
)
that more than one Item # could use the same Lot #.
That is: the KEY to the ILN was LOT# only, not ITEM# and LOT# .
but my memory is not what it used to be.
Any suggestions on how to reduce the numerous finished good lot numbers ??

 Thanks,
 Jim Barry
