i don't know the specifics, but i seen several bpcs programs go into endless loops when there are multiple records in a file with the same key. here's a possibility, let the program run to the point that it gets into the loop. do a WRKACTJOB and select option 14 to show open files. if you're lucky and the program is retrieving te same record or records in the loop, you will see the i/o count on a file go through the roof. jot down what file this happens on. then do some research on that file to determine what the unique key of each record should be. write a query to extract the unique keys and do a count type total on the key to an temp output file. then run another query on this output file selecting any unique key that occurs more than one time. if the keys are unique, multiple occurrences of the same key may be the problem. and watch out for bpcs logically deleted records. some programs differentiate between active and logically deleted records, others don't! thus you may have only one active record but have multiple records on the file with the same key. again, i don't know that this is the problem, but it sure smells like it might be. chick doe barton instrument systems >>> jasupe@hotmail.com 11/10/00 01:51PM >>> Hi, Lisa..... I've tried your suggestion but the same thing happened. It loops to the same item. And at the same time CST500 is the one responsible for updating the field INCCFG into 'Y' value. We did try clearing MPB file and placing the content to temp file. We did run CST500 and we have a success in the roll up. Not worrying about the MPB since we are not using Planning Bill. Just wondering if there's a way to know exactly what's within MPB to cause the endless loop of the program. And how to fix MPB thru BPCS? Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Al, thanks also for your response. Jessie Am I in the right the direction here??? Any help is greatly appreciated. ----Original Message Follows---- From: Lisa.Abney@universalflavors.com Reply-To: BPCS-L@midrange.com To: BPCS-L@midrange.com Subject: Re: Cost Roll-Up Date: Fri, 10 Nov 2000 07:16:56 -0500 Jessie .... We're on 405 (non CD), so might not be the same, but I did have a loop in CST600 a couple weeks ago on an item we were playing with co/by products, and had a bill loaded both for the end item and the by product (which didn't seem logical to me, anyway!). That turned out not to be the issue; the loop seemed to be caused by a flag in the IIM file called Net Change Cost Flag (INCCFG) that for some reason had a "Y" in it. Removed the "Y" and it ran fine. (After 7 years on BPCS, I'd never even noticed that field, and have no idea what it's for, but it wasn't set for anything else.) As Mac responded in another e-mail, CST600 does seem to run forever. We have a fairly large environment, with 10 manufacturing facilities and many multi-level bills, and our cost roll takes 28 hours! +--- | This is the BPCS Users Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to BPCS-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to BPCS-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to BPCS-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner: dasmussen@aol.com +--- _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
