Simple answer is you look at the official documentation on what it DOES as 
far as totalling up stuff ... your month-to-date totals will run to infinity 
& your year-to-date totals will never change since the last end-month that 
included it.

There will be some performance hits, unless you have infinte disk space & 
processor able to handle infinite data.  SYS800 says how long you want to 
retain ITH & this is where he old stuff goes away.
