We have used DBForm from Version One Ltd successfully for this type of work,
including cheque/remittance printing. It may suit you as it's a Unix
utility. It allows mapping of a text file (e.g. plain print job) onto a
predefined form and uses a scripting language to perform calculations, SQL
queries etc to produce pretty well whatever you want. We have written a
simple interface to direct defined print jobs through the DBForm engine and
form definitions. Graphics can also be embedded in the form e.g. logos -
would this do for a signature or are there security implications? Feel free
to call/E-mail if you require any further info.
