David,

There are a lot of things that you can look at to improve performance.  One
of the major increases in performance is to do a PRTSQLINF over the ORD550
program itself.  This will give you a summary of the SQL access plan and
times associated with each one.  You can then go in and create permanent
access paths based on the recommendations.  You can also run DB Monitor to
check which steps are taking a long time.  Based on that you can see what is
taking a while.
