My program does exactly as you suggest,, but using a file instead of a
user space. My problem is with "5) use the subfield of the data structure with
the member name in your
SQL-statement". This implies that I would need to supply the member name
to the SQL statement via a variable. I've yet to find out how to do this
in SQLRPGLE; I don't think it can be done directly (ie, not within a SQL
block). I can point to the correct member by issuing an "OVRDBF" command,
but I've found no valid complementary method in SQLRPGLE (ie, I can't
supply a variable member name to the "CREATE ALIAS" sql statement).

I do not have an example, but it has the following sequence:
1) create a user space.
2) list the members of the file into the user space (API is List Members)
3) retrieve the generic header of the user space: it gives information on
the number of
entries the entry length and the starting position of the entry.
4) do a loop with the number of entries retrieving one entry each time;
retrieve an entry in
a data structure.
5) use the subfield of the data structure with the member name in your
SQL-statement.
6) At the end delete the user space.

User sapces are described in the Object API manual, List Members in the
File API manual.
There have been published many examples using user spaces. Use those as
examples.

Sorry for the fact I cannot provide sample code.

Hope this will put you into the right direction.

Carel.
