My system looks like this:
Route Subnet Next Preferred
Destination Mask Hop Interface
*DFTROUTE *NONE 10.17.6.1 *NONE

It is imperative that I be able to ping 10.17.6.1. Can you ping your
10.0.0.xxx address?

Is the remote host name stored by DNS, IP address or Host table entry?

Have you tried TRACEROUTE?
