Re: How does networking (communication) work when in the cloud

fixed

Nathan called it a sub-domain (and you agreed)...

It's not a sub-domain it's a host. Only hosts can have IP addresses.

What do you mean "Nope?"

At GoDaddy.com, blahblah.dilgardfoods.com points to an IP address of ours.
Our router NATs that IP address to a Windows server.

Isn't that what Nathan said?

Nope...at least not in this context..

blahblah should be a host of some sort, the leftmost side of a FQDN is a
host.

In this: myserver.blahblah.dilgardfoods.com , blahblah is a subdomain.

There's only a few places, such as a domain search list, where the
leftmost
name is a subdomain.

Only hosts can have IP address, domains and subdomains can't.

I think that prevailing terminology would call blahblah a
"sub-domain"
of
the dilgardfoods.com "domain". If you "own" the domain, you can add
as
many
sub-domain names as you want, and point each of them to any valid
public
IP
address of your choice.

I gather that your network administrator pointed blahblah to a
firewall
on
you LAN.
