New HTTP functions added to SYSTOOLS

Thanks for raising awareness. A developer-works article explains the api and syntax:

I like the idea of having REST web service APIs, but making them extensions of SQL convolutes the interface, IMHO. I imagine that others will have an opposite point of view.
