+1 on the watches - you can specify message IDs that will show up in job logs - and this can be set for all jobs on the system, or various filtering.

I think for end job, even abnormal, you could set a watch for CPF1164.

Not sure about hangs, though - that doesn't generate a message, in my recollection.
