Hi Jim,

Please help me with the following:

1.How do I set up the media classes so the expiration dates would work properly?
2.The daily backup will actually be a full system backup.Does this mean that the System policy and back up policy should be the same as that which exists in the production for which the full system backup is already running.
3.BRMS Maintenance job runs on other partitions. Can I copy this BRMS Maintenence job and set it up on this partition to run after the backups

Kindly advice

Darell

  Darell,

Yes, you will have to enroll the tapes.  If you also have the networking
feature of BRMS, a really good thing to have and it's inexpensive, you
can share tapes between the partitions without fear that one will
overwrite another partitions tapes.  The network feature pays for itself
in the reduced number of tapes you need to keep.

It sounds like you have most of the steps done, but a few questions for you.

   1. Did you set up the media classes so the expiration dates would
      work properly for you?
   2. Did you review the System policy, and back up policy to be sure
the settings in there are correct for your installation?
   3. If there are any servers (domino, WAS, MQ, etc) you will have to
watch the back ups to exclude several of the logs, flight
recorders, etc that cannot be backed up while active.
   4. I would suggest you omit the libraries QMPGDATA and QPFRDATA.
They are not needed for a recovery and if collection services is
running they will cause an error.
   5. Is the tape library in the correct mode (assuming there is a tape
      library)
   6. If you are sharing the tape device between the partitions have you
set up the moves with the HMC?

Above all make sure BRMS maintenance is running every day after the back
ups run and the recovery reports are moved to a place where you can get
to them even if ALL of your systems are down.  Many of my clients have
them emailed to their home account, or to me at the office.  In any
case, if the recovery reports are only on the system you are trying to
recover you'll have some intrigue on your hands.

As you can see there are a few details, this is not an exhaustive list
by any means, of things to check but the good news is they are all easy
and quick to do.

Hi,

We have BRMS set up on the AS400 Partions. While the backup routines and scheduler entries are set up on the production partition and backups run on daily/weekly/monthly basis,I have to set it up on the development partition to get he backup going on the development partition.

I have copied the daily back up control group from the production partition and set it up on the development partition.I have also copied the daily backup scheduler entry from the prod partition and set it up on the dev partitions.

Can anyone please let me know the following:

1.What else I have to do on the development partition to get the backup going successfully.

2.The new tapes have been ordered for the dev partion and will be there next week.Do I have to enroll these tapes also in the BRMS.What steps and commands are involved here.

Please advice

Many Thanks
