In general, changes to outfiles are performed in a compatible fashion.
New fields are added at the end of the format and the template file is
shipped with LVLCHK(*NO). This makes most changes transparent.
There have been occasions where Rochester screwed up. I recall one
case where someone stuck a longer than 6 character field name into an
outfile thus forcing RPG III users to rename it or use RPG IV. I
recall noise being made about broken outfiles on one or two releases.
It has happened but infrequently.
