Yes, of course. So for tools vendors like you, providing a great interface for the developer is your priority.

But the bulk of the programmers using WDSC/RDi are developing applications for end-users, as opposed to writing tools.

Ultimately, the important thing is to provide a modern look and feel, and a modern interface for the non-technical people. Whether we can or can't do that is a critical factor in whether this platform will or won't survive. (And so far, it's a battle we're losing badly.)

But you could create great looking applications years ago using JSP. You just had to learn Java. And now with EGL, you don't even have to do that. You've got a WYSIWYG designer and a simple CALL opcode to access your RPG code. Once you learn the syntax, you use the same thing to build rich clients. The rich clients can also access (easily) all the exposed services from any platforms in your infrastructure.

We've had the ability for a while. Seriously, in my copious free time I'm going to throw together a few simple business screens in thin and rich client EGL and throw them out in the public domain. Just that with a six-year-old, writing free software is not way up there on my priority list. <grin>
