If going between iSeries LPARs or separate boxes, I've never had to use special parameters or settings - just works. If you are PUTting file data - physical files - I just use BINARY and it all just works. Maybe try plain vanilla like that and see what happens - this seems really weird.

Source and target, i LPARs. I'll look again but the target is supposed to be a
copy of the source as it was put there via SAVF/Restore long ago.
