1 - Read the "Memo to Users" for BOTH V5R3 and V5R4. Stuff that changed
in V5R3 may not be mentioned in the MTU for V5R4. If you think that
something is too drastic and they must mean something else - think again.

2 - Study the planning website at

Ok, your 270 may be cool. But perhaps some hardware in the 270 is not.
Or some software packages may have been dropped or wrapped up into others.
Again, study both V5R3 and V5R4.

3 - Why ship the CD's at all? If you have the space try "image catalogs".
This way someone out there does not have to be your CD monkey. Also, you
won't run into problems with whether or not you should have waited longer
before taking the continue option on the next CD.

4 - Upgrade from V5R2 to V5R4 directly is supported by IBM. Upgrading
from V5R2 to V5R3 will no longer be supported in January. V5R2 is not
