But - does anyone have any comments on this? I have
never had a cume PTF croak the box like this... I think
I'll restore to the tape I have and just leave it there...
put a big skull and crossbones on the new cume... wait
for the final v5r2 collection...

I had this happen to me back in 1990. Applied a cume package late in the
day, and the CPU LED stayed on as solid as the power lite. Like you it was
a development box, but in the middle of a major project. So I pulled an
all nighter, scratched the disks, and reinstalled from tape.

I had a new operator ask me if PTFs cause problems. I explained that no,
it's normally a very smooth operation, however if it goes badly it can go
_VERY_ badly. Always do your backups before installing cume packages!
