Maybe try encrypting some data to put into a file. I hear there are classes that make this easy. Can be called from RPG.

BTW (crossing 3 groups here!), WDSC 5.1.2 (maybe earlier versions) has a very cool wizard for converting java classes for use in RPG.

If you are not yet on V5R1, you're not going to have a good time.

Good luck, read chapter 11 of the RPG Programmer's Guide carefully, get on the JAVA400 list, as David suggested. And be sure to check out a couple environment variables that will help control the JVM - documented in the V5R3 Programmer's Guide but available by PTF back to V5R1.

OK I have a simple Subfile program. I would like to incorporate some Java for learning purposes. What would be a typical real world need? I had in mind that say on one field there might be a need to update the subfile w/ data coming from the web. Or is there a better example? I can send you the code off line.
Thanks,
Jay
