I will put it this way we used to have a local LUG (Linux Users Group), before OS X. They now call themselves a Unix-like users group. Most people there LOVE OS X. It is so pretty and from the little I have seen. It is a desktop (notice the distinction) OS done right. I think their server version is just as good. It takes away the difficulties of installing software that linux does (which is sometimes hard or confusing). Besides from what I hear it is the fastest platform for java as the VM is built into the core of the OS.

So the choice is a graphical interface or *nix...  Sounds like the choice of
"the lesser of two evils"...;-)

Still, I may follow Joe's lead as the market strength of Linux /may/ make up
for at least some of it's technical deficiencies, and wonder how these
various flavors of *nix compare to OS-X?  I've heard a number of good
opinions re: OS-X, but never tried it m'self.
