Ken: Looks like you have to do something for software (AS400 conversion or PC conversion) no matter what route you choose. Seems like you would want to leverage your knowledge of the 400. Do you have the appropriate skills to support a PC based solution? I like the idea of centralizing to a larger AS400 and connecting branches over the internet. Depending on your requirements, you could use VPN for security. We run an outsourcing project for one of our clients and the entire network structure is based on the internet.
