Not wishing to be pedantic, but if a member of the list asks for advice of fellow members of the list, should it not be permissible to advertise or mention a vendor's own products? It is fulfilling the request of the questioning member, and as long as the claims are not far fetched or wildly wide of the mark (surely no vendor would do that!!) then at least the product's functionality will be truly described rather than hearsay. For instance there have been various questions about Baby products - a lot of the comments were guesses about what could be done or if there were other similar tools available. Surely by letting the relevant companies mention their own products in reply to these posts will shorten the amount of time the point is being discussed - obviously third party comment about the product validity for purpose is also useful, but this way a lot of hearsay and rumours are prevented. If an vendor becomes too frequent with his or her adverts and appears not to take the list seriously then I'm sure matters can be taken care of. (I tend to ONLY mention testing tools when the subject is apt - and then not too much I hope. Well at least no-one has rebuked me yet!!)
